Betty Lou Warnock O’Kell

Betty Lou Warnock O’Kell, 83, passed away on June 29th, 2017 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. She was born on October 3rd, 1933 in Waukon, Iowa to Richard Monroe and Cora Grace Warnock, who preceded her in death. Betty graduated from St. Luke’s College of Nursing in 1955. She was proud to be a nurse and wore her crisply ironed white uniform, freshly polished white shoes and her starched white nursing cap daily until she retired in 2001 from Baptist Medical Center. She was an avid animal lover, Canasta player, theater patron, Royals fan, Lay’s potato chip consumer and the best fried chicken maker.

 

Her grandchildren remember hot summers by the pool surrounded by family, friends and soda pop. After a day in the sun, the adult’s playing cards while the kids watched Disney movies and ate her special chicken nuggets. They remember sitting side by side with her, waiting for the Metro to arrive to catch a matinee, amazed how she navigated the city with never having a driver’s license. They remember piling into her living room on Christmas warmed by the heat of the fire and glow from the tree. Most of all they remember how Grandma Betty made them feel loved in the times when they needed it most.

 

She is survived by her 3 daughters and their spouses, Denniele Bohannon (Meryl), Victoria Liston (Joseph) and Michele Kabelis (Jim). Her 10 grandchildren, Tammi Bohannon, Matt Bohannon, Daniel Crowe (Ashley), Allison Crowe, Benjamin Crowe (Kiley), Jake Liston, Kate Liston, Parris Thomas, Brandon Thomas and Morgan Thomas. Her five great grandchildren, Addison Crowe, Sloan Bohannon, Jack Crowe, Luke Crowe and Neil Crowe. Her sister, Adda Hayes (Jim), nephew Joe Dei Santi (Melanie), great niece Madeline Dei Santi, great nephew Joey Dei Santi and her dog, Domino.

 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the kind, compassionate, loving care Betty received from the entire staff of Garden Terrace of Overland Park. Memorial contributions can be sent to Garden Terrace of Overland Park Activity Department or Wayside Waifs. Private family services.
