Bill Ray Thompson
Aug 15,1934---Jan 12,2018

Bill passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bill was born August 15, 1934 in Maryville Missouri to Shelton and Mary Jane Thompson. He graduated from Maryville High School in 1952 where he met and married his high school sweetheart Edna Garland Flanary.  They were married for 64 years. Bill attended Northwest Missouri College, before he went on to run the Thompson Oil Company. 

 

In 1962, he moved his family to Kansas City to begin a 32 year career with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He began in sales and went on to manage the Wholesale Tire Center. He finished as the general manger for the KC Retread Plant before he retired in 1993.   He also served as the treasurer for Gramercy Park Homes Association for 20 years.

 

He is preceded in death by his parent and his brother, David

 

He is survived by his wife, Edna, and his three children,  Pamela Sikes (Armond), Diana Robinson (David), and Roger Thompson (Brenda) and ten grandchildren, Nancy Ringel, Wes Sikes, Susan Hale, Kyle Thompson, Whitney Thompson, Allison Hogue, Cole Robinson, Mark Robinson, Drew Robinson, Sean Robinson,  and 18 great grandchildren.

 

Bill enjoyed the outdoors and weekends with his family at the lake, camping, boating, fishing and riding his motorcycle.  He was an avid Jayhawk fan. He also was the family’s greatest fan who loved to attend all his grandchildren’s sporting events, no matter where they were, to cheer them on. 

 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17 at 10:00am at Knox Presbyterian Church 9595 West 95th Street in Overland Park followed by a memorial service at 11:00am.
