Vernon Edward Lacy
Aug 14, 1950 - Aug 03, 2018

Vernon Edward Lacy - father, grandfather, handyman, and personal hero passed peacefully on August 3, 2018 due to complications following esophageal cancer. He was 67.

Vern was born in Kansas City, KS on August 14th, 1950, to John and Rose Lacy. He lived his life close to family, finding his calling in a number of different trades. From bartender, to night-shift supervisor for the USPS, to self-employed home remodeler, Vern could accomplish anything he set his mind to.

A laconic and often even a gruff man, the two things Vern never lacked were affection and a good punch line. Those that knew Vern will remember him as the man who could fix anything from a leaky faucet to a broken heart. In fact, the list of things he couldn’t personally fix was relatively short, and as it turns out, modern medicine couldn’t fix a couple of those things either.

Vern will be remembered as a loving and caring man with a great sense of humor, a thorough distaste for politics, and a firm believer in treating others as you wish to be treated. He consistently put other’s needs before his own and lived his life to the fullest extent possible.

Vern is survived by his daughter, Erin Goldsmith; his son, Ian Lacy; his father, John Lacy; his brothers, Robert and Jerry Lacy; his sisters, Patty Katzer, Peggy Stiler, and Regina Stone; his three grandchildren; and his love and guardian angels, Penny Francis and Jax.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00am on August 10th at Porter Funeral Homes, followed by a burial service at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at 12:30pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vern’s life. In lieu of flowers, Vern asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society and Hospice House.

Regina; I am so sorry to hear about your brother's death. As he was a bit older than us, I do not remember him, but after reading his lovely and heartfelt obituary, I feel like I really missed out on being friends with a truly remarkable man! How blessed you and your family were to have Vern in your lives.

Vern was a great school boy friend at St. Agnes and Bishop Miege. Loads of fun bowling, shooting pool, cruising, and just hanging out together. I’m sorry I lost touch with Vern after moving to Chicago in the 70’s. A guy like him... he’s with our Lord in heaven right now.

I was reviewing some of my Facebook contacts and came across Vern's page. After reading several of his posts and the abrupt stop of same, I realized that Vern must have died. Iam expressing my deepest sympathy to Erin and Ian. Your Dad passed too young. He sounds like a wonderful man. You must miss him terribly. I did not see a mention of his deceased wife in the obituary. Cindy Hambrick Lacy was a friend of mine. I met Erin about 37 yrs ago when Cindy visited. Again, my condolences to Ian and Erin.
