John William "J.W." Jones Jr.

John William "J.W." Jones Jr., 76, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018 at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. J.W. was born October 16, 1942 to Johnny and Mary Jones in Fort Worth, Texas, the oldest of 3 children.

 

In the early 1960’s, J.W. began his lifetime career in the Human Resources industry, moving to Cleveland, Ohio for his work with Puritan Bennett. There, he worked as a manager in human resources. Upon his return to the Kansas City area in the early 1970’s, J.W. began working for Business Men’s Assurance as an executive in the Human Resources group. In the mid-1980’s, J.W. moved on to become Chief Operating Officer of Tenenbaum-Hill. He enjoyed that role for many years until he started off on his adventure into the world of memorabilia. For ten years, he owned the ‘The Legacy’ located in Crown Center until deciding to work out of his home for the last decade. J.W. loved to golf, play gin rummy, and enjoyed cheering on his favorite local sports teams: the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.

 

J.W. is survived by his two sons, Jeff and his children Isabelle and Jack of Centennial, CO, Todd and his wife Andrea and their children Carter and Sam of Overland Park, KS and daughter Anna Marie Jones of Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Mary, his sister Cynthia and his brother Roger.

 

A celebration of J.W.’s life will be held on Sunday, December 9th, 2018, 2 to 5 PM. Please call for service details, 913-383-9888. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Cynthia Reed and Mary Jones.

Very sorry to hear of JW's passing. I was a childhood friend while growing up in the area of 57th and Michigan in Kansas City. His sister, Cynthia, and I were in the same class in high school. I remember playing baseball and other games in the street in front of their house.
