Michael Donald Rhoades

Michael Donald Rhoades, 70, passed away on December 28, 2019 in the VA hospital. He was born on July 27th, 1949 in Florissant, Missouri to Don and Della Rhoades.  He was the eldest of 6 children.  He grew up to be a wise, strong, genuine, and caring man. He served as an army medic during the Vietnam War.  He went to Rockhurst College and UMKC. He married Colleen Mannion in 1976 and together they raised three beautiful children. He had many jobs throughout his life, but the one he loved the most was coaching soccer. Michael cared for his players and truly loved the game. He enjoyed coaching many players throughout his career in the Kansas City Area (including his children). In recent years, he loved watching his grandchildren play and went to every game he could. Michael was a loving father, husband, son, brother, and grandfather.  He found great joy in the simple things. He loved soccer, the outdoors, The Lake of the Ozarks, fishing, the Grateful Dead, gardening, hot weather, his family, and his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Don Rhoades. He is survived by his mother, Della Rhoades; wife Colleen Mannion Rhoades; children, Adam Rhoades (Kim), Sarah Rhoades Gouttierre (Nestor), Samantha Rhoades Stull (Sean); grandchildren, Sophie, Vienna, Wolfi, and Morgan; brothers, Dennis (Shar) and Matt; and sisters Lorre (Jeff) Mina (Jean) and MaryJane (Matt).

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The celebration of life for Michael Rhoades is private and will be for family only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Kidney Foundation.

I met Mike nearly 50 years ago when we were college students. He loved his soccer all those years ago and struggled to find a game any where in Kansas City to watch or play! His only greater love was for his family. Michael will be dearly missed by so many people. We will see you later my friend.
