Kenneth Dean Severson, Age: 64

Kenneth Dean Severson, 64, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away April 6, 2024. Ken was born on August 14, 1959, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Karen Kilson, John Garrison and George Severson.


Ken attended Sioux Falls, South Dakota schools graduating in 1977. He went on to attend college at Lamars, Iowa before joining the Marine Corps. 


On September 29, 2001, Ken married his lovely bride, Debra Smith. Together they enjoyed 22 years of the outdoors, traveling, music, movies, thinking outside the box, sharing, playing Santa and Mrs. Claus at parties, and spending time with family and friends. 


Ken held a wide variety of jobs over the years including soldier, youth director, rodeoing, bartending, youth pastor, bus driver, truck driver and project manager. At the age of 36, he went back to school gaining a degree in business followed by a master’s degree in business administration. 


Ken’s hobbies included bird watching, reading, telling his stories and sharing his knowledge whenever he could. 


He was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother and a nephew. He is survived by his wife Debbie; 2 brothers, Kevin (Linda) Severson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kyle (Amy) Severson of Eagan, Minnesota; 1 sister, Karla Alexander of Stanwood, Washington; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. 

 

A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Sunday, April 14th with a short memorial service at 11:00a.m. followed by a time of celebration until 1:00p.m. at The Gathering Place in the LongHouse at the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, 8909 W. 179th St. Overland Park, Kansas.
