Kenneth Lee Palmer

Kenneth Lee Palmer passed away on February 4, 2010, at his home in Overland Park,

Kansas following recurrence of prostate cancer.

Ken was born July 30, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa to Cynthia and Herbert Palmer. He

graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1947 and University of Iowa in 1952.

Following the footsteps of his uncle, Brigadier General Bernard Hughes, Ken joined the

Air Force, flying combat missions in F-86E Sabre with the 51

st Fighter Wing during theIn 1956, Ken continued his love of flying as a pilot and captain for TWA

Korean War.

before retiring in 1989. Ken kept flying as a private pilot until he was 75.

Ken is survived by his wife of 26 years, Pamela Elizabeth Palmer; by four sons from his

previous marriage to Norma Fox, and their spouses; David and Lisa Palmer of Katy,

Texas; Guy and Dianne Palmer of Pullman, Washington; Ross and Darcie Palmer of

Fort Collins, Colorado; Evan and Tami Palmer of Oakland, California; and six

grandchildren; Abra, Aaron, Daniel, Joy, Oliver and Sam.

Ken is also survived by sister, Carolyn Reynolds of Lincoln, Illinois, her spouse Jim

Reynolds, and their children, James Reynolds Jr. and Sara Heumann, and her family.

Ken was preceded in death by sister, Helen Petersen of Waterloo, Iowa, but survived by

niece Dana McDermott of Colorado Springs, Colorado, nephews Robert Petersen and

Eric Petersen of Waterloo, Iowa, and their families.

Ken will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, particularly in Overland Park

and in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada.

The memorial service will be held at Heritage United Methodist Church in Overland Park

on Saturday, February 13 at 11a.m. Pastor Jeannie Jensen will officiate and Dr. Tom

Brady will present the eulogy. For more information about the service, contact (913) 897-

In honor of Ken's wishes, his family requests contributions to the American Cancer

Society, Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, or Heritage United Methodist Church, in

lieu of flowers.
