Our beloved husband, dad, brother, uncle, pa-pa Theodore B. “Ted” Rastorfer, 73, of Kansas City, MO, passed away March 11, 2010 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Ted was born February 2, 1937, in Boonville, MO, the son of Herschel L. Rastorfer and Nancy M. "Pootsie" (Jewett) Rastorfer. He was a 1955 graduate from South High School in Denver, CO and attended Colorado A&M College (now Colorado State Univ). Ted was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1958, after proudly serving an overseas tour in Germany with the Hqs 7th Army. Shortly after his discharge, Ted moved to Kansas City, Missouri and began working for Hallmark Cards in 1960. While working for Hallmark, he earned his Associates Degree in Business from Longview Community College.
On January 26, 1963, Ted married Mary Ann Tonnar in Carrollton, MO. Ted was an active supporter and sideline cheerleader as he watched his three children excel in sports, music and the arts. Most recently, Ted was blessed with the arrival of his only grandson, Jack. Jack Theodore, named after Ted, instantly became the apple of grandpa's eye. Ted's face would light up every time Jack entered the room and yelled "Hi Papa."
He retired from Hallmark Cards in 1999, after more than 38 loyal years of service as a senior graphic arts engineer.
Throughout his life, Ted loved playing sports with co-workers, golf with his brothers and spending time joking and laughing with his sisters.
Ted's happiest times were spent at large family gatherings with his in-laws and nieces and nephews. Ted was a kind and gentle man that lived by the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann, sons Craig of Overland Park, and Todd (Kristina) & grandson Jack of Lenexa, daughter Gail (Dan Rodden) Chicago, IL, brothers Bob (Rosalie) KCMO, David (Phoebe) Columbia, MO, John (Ann) Gladstone, MO, sisters Nancy L. Burns (Mike) McKinney, TX, Mary K. "Myrt" Bauer (Bill) Los Gatos, CA, aunt Bennie Leonberger of Boonville, MO, and 18 nieces & nephews around the world. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel L. & Nancy M. “Pootsie” Rastorfer, and brother Roy. Visitation 6-7:30pm with prayer service to follow, March 17 at St. Matthew Apostle Church, 8001 Longview Road, KCMO 64134. Funeral mass 11am, March 18 at St. Matthew Apostle. Private burial. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to St. Matthew Apostle Church or KC Hospice House. |
