James R. "Jim" Eschenheimer, Age: 84

Mar 17, 1942 - Oct 18, 2026

James R. “Jim” Eschenheimer passed away on October 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 17, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Rudy and Elsie Eschenheimer. His family later moved to Chillicothe, Missouri, where he grew up.

Jim attended Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he met his future wife Barbara Huston. Even at a young age they shared a special bond and their first date took place beneath a mimosa tree in Utica Square. Their paths came together again at the University of Kansas, where their relationship continued to flourish. After graduating in 1964, they married in Tulsa, Oklahoma, continuing their love story. Jim was a devoted husband and father whose love for his family remained constant throughout his life.

After college, Jim began Law School, but was called away to Chillicothe to take the helm of the family business for several years. Jim went on to build a successful career as a salesman and business leader in the animal feed, pet care, and wild bird industries. Throughout his career, he built lasting relationships with colleagues and customers.

Following several career changes, Jim and his family settled in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, in 1980. He later established his own sales representative agency before becoming Director of Marketing for D & D Commodities Ltd. Although he officially retired in 2008, Jim continued working as an independent sales representative to support his love of golf until his full retirement in 2024.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Kristin Eschenheimer, and son-in-law, Bryan Castleberry; his son, Nick Eschenheimer, and daughter-in-law, Whitney Mackey; and his two grandsons, Andrew Eschenheimer and Luke Eschenheimer, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jim had a big personality, a kind heart, and a wonderful sense of humor. His warmth, humor, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A graveside service will be attended by immediate family. A celebration of life, open to all, will follow from 2–4 p.m. on November 7, 2026, at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society in Blue Springs, Missouri.

I grew up at Colonial Nursery Where Jim was the bird seed delivery man. As a child the only job my parents would give me was to sack bird seed. That being said, when Jim did his deliveries it was the highlight of my life as a child. He knew my job, and how excited I would get. He was always so kind to me as a child. I loved to see what the delivery of the week would be. Fast forward to adulthood, I worked for him taking care of his flowers and bushes. Jim will always remain in my memory box as one of the kindest men I have ever know. God bless you Jim for all the memories you gave me. May you rest in peace with Jesus and be free of your pain. I hope you are feeding those birds in heaven!

Dear Kristen and family, Nick and family, and Jim's many, many friends that I am proud to be one of.....He was everything you so beautifully said about him and more. I'm so happy to have met him and Barbara years ago and had such fun being with them and our KU group when I met/married my Joe. When I got the news he went to Heaven I just sat down and enjoyed thinking of the 2 of them and Joe and all their friends and relatives rejoicing being together again. I will love seeing you all on the 7th. xo-Norma Herring.

Heartfelt condolences and prayers from neighbors, Maurice & Tammy Jackson. We are sorry for your loss. Jim made us feel genuinely welcome to the Fairfield Greens community nearly 3 years ago. He was very inquisitive and someone who remained well-informed. Our neighborhood benefited greatly from Jim’s leadership abilities and project management experience, both of which proved to be valuable assets to our HOA. He was orderly and organized, plainspoken, humorous and of quick whit. We, The Jacksons, affectionately nicknamed him “The Mayor of Thornberry Place!” He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
