Marcus Crane Cockrell

Marcus Crane Cockrell, 51, of Kansas City MO passed away April 9, 2019.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2019 at Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas. Visitation and reception will occur at the conclusion of the memorial service.

 

Marcus is survived by his wife of 28 years, D'An Cockrell. He’s also survived by his father George Franklin Cockrell, brother Matthew Cockrell, sister Allison Hurley, brother in-law Patrick Hurley, nephews Samuel and Benjamin Hurley, father in-law Joe Miller, sister in-law Carren Miller, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many dear friends.  Marcus is preceded in death by his mother Gwendolyn Cockrell and mother in-law Patricia Miller. 

 

Marcus was born in Dacca, Pakistan in December 1967. Marcus subsequently accompanied his family to Thailand and Indonesia and finally to Kansas City in 1977.  Marcus graduated from Grandview High School in 1986 and attended the University of Missouri. Marcus served in the United States Army from 1989 to 1991. He is a Gulf War veteran where he was awarded Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, two Bronze Stars, Marksmanship Badge Rifle, M-16 Expert Marksmanship and Grenade Badge. Marcus was also awarded the Eagle Scout in 1984. Marcus enjoyed mostly being around his family and friends.  He also enjoyed the outdoors, target shooting, fishing, camping and his Missouri Tigers.
