James Martin O'Banion, Age: 76

James M. O’Banion 1943-2020, James Martin O’Banion, age 76,

was born in Carthage, Missouri to Joseph Martin O’Banion and

Bette Jean (Schambach) on December 08, 1943 and entered into

eternal rest on May 28, 2020.

James graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1962.

On January 23, 1965 James was united in marriage to

Sandra K. (Hallauer) in Kansas City, Missouri and were married

for 55 years. To this union 3 children were born.

James was active duty in the United States Air Force from 1962-66.

He worked for Braniff International as a cargo handler 1966-1982. He

also worked for SMB Freight, Burlington Air Express and Forward Air. James retired in 2008. He enjoyed watching nascar and western movies, playing candy crush, solitaire and gardenscapes.

He always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell, a riddle to figure out and a sense of humor. James loved trains and putting puzzles together but most of all he loved his family. He was the rock of our family, to his sisters their Hero and to his grandchildren he was Grandpa and Papa. We loved him. James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Marty O’Banion, his sisters Judith Eckert and Sharon Collins.

He is survived by his wife Sandra, his sons Joseph (Tonya) O’Banion, Robert O’Banion and Monica (Dane) Blades, Sisters Bette Jean Person, Kathy Bradley and Leslie (Robert) Harkrider.

James had seven grandchildren. Taylor, Reese, Brianna, Shelby, Joseph, Lillian and Eli and one great-grandson Teagan. He has several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life and funeral services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions can be made in James’ name to NorthCare Hospice House 2800 Clay Edwards Dr. 2nd Floor North Kansas City, Missouri 64116

Jimmy was my neighbor for many years as we grew-up. He was a very nice boy and man. I have many fond memories of him. God bless his family. I know he will be missed.
