Angelo Fiataruolo

Angelo V. Fiataruolo, 77, of Leawood, KS passed away on May 29th after a very short battle with cancer.

He was born in Morristown, NJ to Anna DiLorenzo and Angelo Fiataruolo.  He graduated from Morristown High School and received his BA in Economics from Marietta College.  He later earned his MBA in Finance from the University of Rochester.

Angelo spent most of his career in aviation, working on the leadership teams of Cessna, Canadair and Pilatus before eventually retiring from Kansas City Aviation Center. He was always looking for the next challenge, from creating a new business model at a startup to helping established companies looking to grow.

When he was not impacting the world of aviation, he was chasing his passions of food, wine and travel. He enjoyed hosting wine dinners for his network of friends and would share the fruits of his travel to the various wine regions of the world.

Angelo was survived by loving partner, SalliAnn Katz; daughter, Kathy Irvine (Brent); son, Angelo Fiataruolo, Jr. (Erin); and grandchildren Anthony, Maria, Giuliana, Angelo, and Alessandra; and many dear friends.

The family will host a Celebration of his Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Angelo’s favorite causes:  Gilda’s Club Kansas City, Harvesters, or Kansas City Hospice House.

I was only fortunate enough to know Angelo for a short while, when he graciously joined our informal weekly racquetball game. But it was clear from day one that he was someone special - warm, friendly, caring, smart, and a darned good athlete. Condolences to Salli and the family.

Angelo has been a friend of mine and my wife Nancy for several years, first as a racquetball competitor and then we found out we were close neighbors. My memory of Angelo will be as one of the most even tempered gentlemen I've ever known, a very good cook, a dedicated friend, a foodie and a knowledgeable collector of Italian wines. We enjoyed many dinners and events with Angelo and Salli. Angelo was just a very nice person that we feel fortunate to have called our friend.
