Joseph D. Schauer III, age 78, of Shawnee KS, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on July 15, 1943 and the son of the late Joseph Daniel Schauer Jr. and late Harriet Anna (Childs) Schauer of Merritt Island Florida.
Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a good friend and neighbor to many. Joe graduated in 1961 from Foxborough High School, Massachusetts and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. He was a member of the US Armed Forces, first as a Marine from 1966-1969 and then in the Kansas Army National Guard where he settled in the Kansas City area. After a 10 year career with Mobile Oil Company he was a systems analyst for Hallmark for 23 years. Joe was also active in the community during his retirement, as a school crossing guard and a parking attendant at Kansas Speedway. Joe could always be counted on for his witty comments and lending a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors.
Joe was married to Mary "Tony" Lutz Schauer for 45 years, where they made their home in Shawnee. Joe was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Stephanie Schauer, who died March 7th, 2013 and by his sister, Janet Elizabeth Hunter, who died June 28, 2012.
He is survived by his wife Tony; his son, Joseph Daniel Schauer IV of Portland OR (Karin Wriggle); his daughter, Deborah Schauer Taylor, of Shawnee KS (Favorite Son in Law, Eric); sister Jo Ann Schauer Schiffleger (Don) of Merritt Island FL; brother James M. Schauer (Gail Burnett) of Raleigh NC; his grandsons Peter Daniel; and Austin, Brody, and Colton Taylor. He was also very close to his niece, Janette Michelli and his nephews Tom and Steve Davis.
Funeral Arrangements will be on Friday September 17th with Visitation at 10:00am followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 am at Good Shephard Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75th St., Shawnee, KS 66216.
