Kennieth (Kenny) Knox Smith, Age: 74

Kennieth (Kenny) Knox Smith, 74 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

 

He was born in Savanah, Georgia September 17, 1947 to James K. Smith, Sr. & Martha Ann Smith. He was the oldest of 8 children: Charles, Mary Ann, James, Jr., Joe, Patricia, Tommy and Linda. Later finding out about a half sister (James, Sr. Child) older than him is Bernice in Newfoundland.

 

He joined the Navy in 1966 and served on the USS Fort Marion with 3 tours to Vietnam. He was Honorably Discharded in 1969. Kenny met his wife Donna in 1967 and their first child Sharon was born in 1968. They moved to Donna's hometown of Portland, Oregon where he worked at the Oregon Steel Mill. Their son Kevin was born in 1971.

 

Kenny attended Portland Community College for his Auto Mechanic Certificate and started his own mechanic business, My Shop of Auto Repair and later a computer business, CTC Mobile Computer Repair in Portland, Oregon.

 

He moved to Kansas City, Missouri to live with his daughter so that she could take care of him in the late stages of Dementia.

 

Kenny was preceded in death by his father, James K. Smith, Sr., his mother, Martha, brothers, Charles, Tommy and Joe.

 

He leaved behind his ex-wife, Donna, his daughter, Sharon, his son, Kevin, grandchildren, Ryan, Justin Makaila and Sarah, along with his siblings, Bernice, Mary Ann, James, Jr., Patricia, Linda and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Kenny will return to Brunswick, Georgia as his final resting place.
