December 20, 1941 - September 6, 2022
Virginia “Ginger” Beth Lew passed away on September 6, 2022, at age 80. She was born on December 20, 1941, to Darrell Courtney and Ella Elizabeth Caves in Pryor, Oklahoma. She grew up in Pryor, where her friends began calling her Ginger at an early age. She graduated from Pryor High School in 1959 and earned a degree in elementary education in 1963 from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Ginger married Wayne S. Lew in 1972, and together they raised two sons.
Ginger’s first job after graduating from college was teaching first grade at Franklin Elementary School in Kansas City, Kansas. She later taught first and second grades at Dorothy Moody Elementary School in Overland Park, Kansas. After retiring from teaching, she worked at a Hallmark store and enjoyed talking to the customers, who always had a story to tell when they bought a card or gift.
Ginger was a member of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, where she volunteered and participated in Bible studies. She was looking forward to attending a new Bible study class this fall. She also volunteered with several other organizations. She enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and traveled extensively. She always seemed to find a local bakery, where she would purchase something to share with others.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Ella Caves, brother Tom Caves, and twin sister Beatrice Marie Caves, who passed away at birth. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Wayne, sons Eric Lew and Kyle Lew (Danielle), along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.
Ginger will be remembered as a bright light to all those who knew her and to all those who came into contact with her. She always thought of others first. She spread kindness and love, even during her last days. She was a beacon of God’s light, blessing so many others with humility, grace, and words and acts of care and encouragement.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 20, in the Wesley Chapel at the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering a donation to the Church of the Resurrection Missions.
