Donald W. Pierpoint, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas died Thursday, December 21, 2023. He was born October 11, 1936, in New Point, MO to Claude and Mary Pierpoint. He graduated from Maryville High School, Maryville, MO in 1954, Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO in 1958 and also earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, NE in 1962. He was employed by the Mercer Missouri School District, Texas Eastman CO., Longview, TX, Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO and Brighton Colorado School District. He started working for Black & Veatch International in 1975 and retired in 1998 from its parent firm. His work at Black & Veatch was in the finance and accounting department, which included postings in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia and Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary Pierpoint of Maryville, MO and brothers Loren and Karl Pierpoint. Don is survived by his wife, Linda J. (Durrie) Pierpoint of Overland Park, KS; by daughter and son-in-law Robin and Don Welch of Coronado, CA, grandchildren Savannah Welch of Portland, OR; Daniel and Izzy Ashley Welch of San Francisco, CA; son and daughter-in-law MSgt (RET) Stacy and MSgt (RET) Cindy Pierpoint (USAF), grandchildren Amber and Chris Stembridge of Albuquerque, NM and April and Chet Sheffield of Alamogordo, NM; son, Col (RET) Joseph Barber (USA) of San Antonio, TX, grandchildren, Heide and Joey Barber of Lansing, KS; and daughter, Cynthia Barber of Overland Park, KS.
After retirement, Linda and Don traveled extensively in Europe while both sons and daughter-in-laws were in the military. In addition, Don was an avid reader and golfer, spending many an hour lining up a double bogey putt, or cheering on Nebraska Football, University of Kansas Basketball or his beloved Chiefs.
A memorial service will be held at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS in The Chapel at 12:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023 with a reception following in the Friendship Hall. No flowers, please. Memorials may be sent to the Music Department of Village Church.
