Ann B. McKay
Nov 26, 1929 - Apr 07, 2024

Ann B McKay peacefully passed away at her home in Blue Springs, MO, Sunday, April 7, after a short illness. Born November 26, 1929, in Dresden, MO, to William and Anna Carroll Harmon, she moved a number of times with her family due to her father’s work demands. Living in Sedalia, Smithton, Little Blue and Independence helped her cultivate her “never met a stranger” outlook toward life that remained part of her personality her entire life. She attended Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia but moved her Senior year and graduated from Raytown High School in 1947. She remained close to her Smith-Cotton friends and joined them in their annual reunions, including their 75th held in September 2023.

Ann was united in marriage to Wesley Keith McKay of Marshall, MO, on February 14, 1948. She worked in the family run restaurant business (McKay’s Café and McKay’s Wings) until the business closed in 1985. Ann relocated to Blue Springs in 2007 to be closer to her daughter’s family and her brothers who all lived in the Kansas City, MO area. She loved her time with the Red Hat Ladies, her church family and dancing until 90 years of age. Family was everything and she supported their events until her physical limitations prevented her presence, but she was always there in spirit. She never missed a family gathering and hosted many of them through the years.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, her parents and her older brother, Raymond “Dusty” Harmon. She is survived by her daughter, Alice Berry of Lee’s Summit and her son, Michael (Shirley) McKay of Marshall. Six grandchildren: Jason Berry (Lee’s Summit), Kelley (Eric) Fuemmeler (Marshall), Alex (Mary) Berry (Merriam, KS), Scott (Aki) McKay (Van Nuys, CA), Heather (Mick) Cronk (Lee’s Summit), Ashley (Kyle) Fowler (Gastonia, NC). Five great grandchildren: Grace, Ellee and Dallas Cronk; Freya Fowler, and Crichton McKay. She is also survived by two brothers: Larry Harmon and Ron Harmon, both of Kansas City and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation services were provided by The Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri (Lee’s Summit). A Celebration of Life has not yet been scheduled.
