Jerome "Jerry" Murphy, Age: 67
Feb 12, 1957 - Apr 06, 2024

Jerry Murphy, a beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle passed away Saturday April 6,2024 at the age of 67. Born on February 12,1957 in Kansas City, Missouri Jerry was the son of John and Martha Murphy.

Jerry was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri growing up in Coleman Highlands neighborhood, attended Redemptorist and Pem Day schools. Jerry graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1976. While on a winter college break from the University of Missouri-Rolla Jerry met his soon to be best friend Patty Mahoney. In 1982 Jerry and Patty were married. Throughout their marriage of 41 years Jerry and Patty enjoyed traveling especially to State and National Parks and locations related to nature. Jerry thoroughly enjoyed trout fishing as he was very independent and enjoyed the peace and solitude of nature. Jerry was comfortable in his own space but also valued his time with family especially with his son Tony-fishing and camping. Jerry was a friend and mentor to many of Tony's friends. Ski trips to Steamboat Colorado with family were also enjoyed throughout the years.

Jerry enjoyed many hobbies and his pride and joy was his 64 ½ Mustang which he restored. He had a vast knowledge of cars and loved to collect hot wheels and matchbox starting at a young age.

Jerry had different jobs throughout his life. As he was interested in cars he worked at Santa Fe Auto Sound, Beatty Stereo, and Sounds Great Car Stereo in Lawrence, Kansas. Jerry could repair and fix anything as he was patient and methodical to a higher degree. After working for companies Jerry worked independently for clients and family. He was not the quickest worker but if Jerry did the job it was always done correctly. He was intelligent, trustworthy, and loyal to family and friends alike.

In his later years Jerry enjoyed keeping up to date on world news especially politics and was very knowledgeable regarding current events. He was strong on his views and opinions but also valued others opinions even if they were different from his. He enjoyed in depth conversations with family, friends, and neighbors.

Jerry was the youngest of 5 children from John and Martha Murphy, was truly loved and will be greatly missed by many. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathleen Mallon, brother Peter J. Murphy. He is survived by his wife Patricia “Patty" Murphy, son Anthony “Tony" (Claire), granddaughter Margot, sisters Anita Murphy of Kansas City, Missouri and Jeanne Murphy of Kansas City, Missouri. I can hear Jerry now, with a high-pitched voice, in his socially awkward sort of way saying 'BYE-BYE!' makes me chuckle. But seriously, though. His love for all of us was truly a gift. He will be missed.
