John Lauritz Agre, Age: 68
Jul 30, 1955 - Apr 15, 2024

John Lauritz Agre (aged 68) passed into the arms of Jesus early April 15th, 2024 while surrounded by family. John was born on July 30th, 1955 to Maxine and Irvin Agre in Lynnwood, California. He was fortunate enough (depending on who you ask) to grow up with not only two loving parents, but two older sisters, Zona and Bonnie, who helped to guide and raise him (he would probably say they bossed him around). John had a wonderful childhood and young adult life in California graduating from Excelsior High School and being a part of the Sigma Phi Fraternity at Cerritos College where he found life long friends.

On Valentine’s Day in 1975, he made the best decision of his life when he took Joyce White out on a first date. In 1977 they were married and then had three beautiful children. Jill, Justin, and Julie were the greatest gifts to ever be bestowed upon John. He was so proud to be their dad and was always there to support and love them. John was a steady fixture in the stands and on the field to cheer them on in all of their endeavors - truly their biggest fan. In the summer of 1990, John and Joyce loaded up the car and moved their family from California to Kansas.

If you knew John, you know that he never met a stranger and he loved all things sports. John translated this into one of his favorite jobs, working at 3&2 Baseball Complex as a Field Manager. John loved his time riding around the complex in the golf cart, talking to coaches and umpires, eating bratwurst from the concession stand, and watching baseball. John also volunteered as a youth football coach and coached his son’s baseball team. John loved his players and found so much joy in watching them develop into successful young men.

John will be remembered fondly for his exceptional ability to connect with people, those gifts led him to a career in sales and as a wedding officiant. John loved hearing people’s stories and getting to know them. He had a servant's heart that led him to twenty plus years of volunteering teaching Sunday school and working with the Tech Team at Church of the Resurrection.

Once John and Joyce became empty nesters, they found time to fly south for a couple of weeks every winter to Destin, Florida. They quickly made good friends and John loved sitting by the pool telling stories and eating shrimp from Blalocks. The beach was John’s happy place and the whole family was able to spend time together down there one last time in 2022.

In 2009, John became a Papa for the first time and life got even better. John and Joyce fell into grandparenthood so naturally and loved spoiling all of their grandsons. John was their biggest cheerleader and made sure he could be on the sidelines whenever he could. As John’s mobility dwindled, he would still find ways to be there even if he had to sit in the van in the parking lot to watch. His grandchildren will never question his love for them as he was the proudest Papa.

John was so excited to welcome his first granddaughter this June and knew, even before the doctor confirmed it, that she was a girl. He would brag about her to anyone who would listen. She will be able to go through life knowing that she is Papa’s favorite granddaughter.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Mickey and Irv Agre, and his pride and joy, Ollie, his lap dog. John is survived by Joyce Agre, his loving wife of 46 years, his children Jill (Jesse)

Riegel, Justin (Ashley) Agre, and Julie (Jared) Thomas, sisters Zona Brown and Bonnie (Denny)

Fielder, grandchildren Luke and Sam Agre, Leo, Emmett, and Baby Girl Thomas, and Azery Riegel. John is also survived by his nieces, who learned many inappropriate words from him, Brenda (Brad) Tally, Shelly (Nathan) Jansen, Lola (Chiheb) Kallala, and Mona (Michael) Thomas. He also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Leo and Emmett wanted everyone to know that Papa still lives in our hearts and is with us wherever we go.

Carol Bello Skinner Apr 25, 2024

Wife of Jim Skinner and dear friend from Evergreen ,Lenexa, ,Kansas

Dear Joyce, It is with deepest sorry and condolences that we convey our sincere sympathy. I am sorry to have missed John’s memorial service. It wasn’t until yesterday that Jim mentioned missing John. I simply thought John was hospitalized. Again, I am so sorry. I want to thank you, too, for the kindness you and John both always showed to Jim and me. Know that you and John have touched both of our hearts. If you ever need a friend, please consider me as one. Blessings, Carol Bello Skinner
