David Thomas Guilfoyle, Age: 74
Mar 01, 1951 - May 30, 2025

David Thomas Guilfoyle, 74, of Independence, MO passed away on May 30, 2025.  He was born March 1, 1951 to Thomas Joseph and Rosalea Virginia (Hereford) Guilfoyle in Fort Scott, Kansas.

After graduating from Fort Scott High School, David attended Fort Scott Community College and continued his education graduating with honors from the University of Kansas (Class of 1973) and the University of Kansas School of Law (Class of 1977).  He practiced law in the Kansas City area for many years.

David married Bonnie Jean Teter on June 26, 1980.

David was Dad to Andrew David and Matthew Thomas, Papa to Maggie Rose and Charlotte Lynn, Brother to Mike and Pat, and Uncle David to his nieces and nephews.   He loved his family dearly and special memories have been made over the years at family gatherings, traveling extensively with Bonnie, and spending time at the family’s Happy Place at Lake of the Ozarks.  His little granddaughters captured his heart and provided much joy in these last 7 years as he fiercely battled cancer.  David was a man of faith, integrity, honesty, and he was funny with a dry sense of humor.   He will be fondly missed and remembered lovingly by his family and close friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mike, parents-in-law Don and Norma Teter, and sister-in-law Brenda (Teter) Mears.

David is survived by his wife, sons Andrew and Matt (Stephanie) Guilfoyle, brother Patrick (Sally) Guilfoyle, sister-in-law Martha Guilfoyle, brother-in-law Curtis Mears (Jena); Nieces and Nephews Casey (Carrie) Guilfoyle, Kelly (Jocelyn) Guilfoyle, Nathan (Rachel) Guilfoyle, Jacob Guilfoyle, Rachel (Brian) Taylor, and Aaron Mears;  Great Nieces and Nephews Karis and Maryn Guilfoyle, Ryan and Owen Guilfoyle, Lilly and Ella Mears, and Graham and Melody Taylor, Uncle Bernard Guilfoyle, and many cousins.

It was David’s request that no memorial services be held.  We will honor that request.
