Jan Corinne Truby, Age: 78

Nov 16, 1947 - Feb 28, 2026

We all knew that when Phil passed, mom would be right behind him. February 28th, 2026 Jan Truby left this world to join him for a dance in Heaven.

November 16th, 1947, Jan Corinne was born to Nell Robertshaw and John Uhler, in Greenville, MS. Her childhood days were filled with games and adventure with sisters, cousins, and friends. In 1972 she graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelors in Journalism and a minor in photography, and married a classmate, Jay Morlan Turner, not long after. Through their union they had a son, John Olan, and daughter, Jaime Corinne. They farmed together for many years. Most of her photography was done during this time, capturing many beautiful landscapes of windmills and thunderstorms. She reminisced on plowing the fields where she could spend quiet moments with the Lord. Many years later, after having moved to Colorado Springs, CO, the marriage dissolved. She then met and married Phillip Allen Truby in 1989, and they became a dynamic duo and award-winning sales partners at Shelter Insurance. They were proud to serve their clients who were treated like family and whom many kept in touch years later. Phil’s honest smile and Jan’s sparkling charisma certainly had something to do with their success.

Due to worsening symptoms of MS, Jan was forced to retire in 1994. She was then able to pursue her passion for writing and art. In 2000, they moved to Phil’s hometown in Anthony, KS where they spent the next 25 years enjoying friends, family, and each other. Jan made many strong bonds and friendships there and put roots down where she had never been able. She said those were some of the happiest days of her life.

Preceded in death is her husband, Phil Truby (May 22nd, 2025), and three sisters, Ellen, Mary Katherine, and just last fall, Hannah, all of Texas. She is survived by her son John Turner and fiancé Shelly of Pampa, Tx; daughter Jaime Oliphant and husband Damon of Wichita; Stepdaughter Shelly Horton and husband Ted of KS City, MO; Stepson Greg Truby and wife Jeannette of KS City, KS. Grandchildren: Beau Norwood and wife Jarika of Haysville, KS; Makayla Jones and Nate of Bel Plaine, KS; Mel Norwood, and Madeline Norwood both of Wichita; Great grandchildren, Sonny and Lachlan Norwood of Haysville, KS. Step-grandchildren of KS City: Tyler, Garret, Gabriel, and Ariana. Three sisters Melanie Johnson and husband Randy of Carrolton, TX; Camille Thibodeaux of Ocean Springs, MS; and Anne Arbor of Baton Rouge, LA. Step-mother Glenna Uhler of Baton Rouge, LA; and a host of cousins, nieces, and friends.

The family invites those that loved her as well to join them in celebrating her life and saying good-bye. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Anthony, KS on March 21st at 3:00 pm.

I have tried to reach Jan a number of times with no response. I took a chance and looked up obituaries and found hers. Jan and I became friends while living in Friona and continued our friendship through the years. She wrote a lovely piece for the Friona Star about my folks and helped me with ‘my story’. I was with her when she was diagnosed with MS and witnessed the strong wonderful woman who continued to live life to the fullest. Precious memories 🥰
