Ronald Edward Smith, Age: 85

Aug 20, 1940 - Feb 27, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Edward Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO who died on February 27, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Ronald was born in Kansas City MO on August 20, 1940 to Julian and Gertrude Smith. He attended Rockhurst High School and Rockhurst College.  Most of his working years were spent in Industrial Sales and Engineering.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, Kenneth Edward; along with his sisters, JoAnn Howard, Patricia Gilbert, and Donna Popplewell.

A loving, caring, hardworking, and generous man, Ronald was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth; his daughter Cynthia Church (Steven); his two sons, Steven (Robyn) Smith and Lawrence Smith; and his youngest sister, Jeannine Parkinson. He was also a beloved grandfather to Grace and Lainey Church; Carter and Choe Smith; Brady, Lawson, and Lacey Smith.

He met his one true love, Elizabeth, at a high school dance. The two were still dancing together after 65 years without missing a beat. His devotion to Elizabeth was a beautiful tribute to their never-ending love. This set an incredible example for his children and grandchildren.

Ronald was a natural “do-it-yourselfer” who enjoyed fixing things and working with his hands. He spent many happy hours at the Hobby Hut woodworking shop with many friends, where they lovingly crafted toys for charity to bring joy to children at Christmas. He never turned down a request from one of his own children to make something for them, no matter how challenging the project was.

Beyond the workshop, he loved a competitive game of pool and he rarely turned down a request to play. Known for his skill, he never let anyone win easily, even against his seven grandchildren. He will be remembered as a good shot indeed.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. While his absence leaves an emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, they are comforted knowing he will be watching over them from Heaven.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”- John 14:1-3

Ron and Liz have been friends for many many years. We danced together with the Krazy Kats 50ties when they played at The American Legion in Blue Springs, MO. as well as other places in Kansas City. We love both Ron and Liz forever . Even that Ron is with the Lord we will keep Liz and hope we can continue to meet for lunch as we have done.

Friend, neighbor ,Lees Summit ,Missouri

I love the wonderful picture of Ron, so handsome and kind. He and Liz have been our neighbors and friends at John Know Meadows West. What a close, loving couple, who I was lucky to see dance once: quite talented! Ron was quite a craftsman and pool player. He liked to help others and make them feel good about themselves. I will miss seeing him on his red scooter. The world needs more caring, upright folks, like Ron. I loved your John 14: 1-3 verses closing Ron's obit.
