Feb 23, 1935 - Mar 15, 2026

Sue Luger, 91, of Mission Hills, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 15th, 2026.

Born to Helen and Bill Schmiederer in Evanston, Illinois, her early years were spent in Pasadena, California before moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1948. She attended Southwest High School and the University of Kansas.

She started her real estate career in 1974 and was active for over 30 years, earning numerous awards including serving as a Director of the National Association of Realtors for 10 years. She also served on the Mission Hills City Council, Board of Zoning Appeals and the Architectural Review Board.

Sue was a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, Governor of the American Royal, the BOTAR organization, Society of Fellows of the Nelson Atkins Museum, The Kansas City Country Club, the Garden of the Gods Club and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

She loved to travel and filled numerous scrapbooks with memories of the many trips taken across the world. She also enjoyed gardening, tennis and entertaining. One of her favorite events was the Academy Awards party which involved a get together with friends to dress up as their favorite actors/actresses from the movies that year.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George Luger and her brother Bob Schmiederer. She is survived by her sons, Brad (Karen) and Brian (Kim) and seven grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the team at Mission Chateau memory care, Residential Hospice and RNS Private Duty Care for their care and support. The family is also grateful for the loving care and devotion over the years by our caregiver and friend, Janice Johnson.

Memorial Services will be held at 2pm on Thursday April 9th at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Heart of America Alzheimer’s Association Chapter (alz.org/kansascity)

My dear and special friend Sue will be missed by all of us. We shared so many of our life experiences, the joys, the laughter, and the tears. There was no one like her, and no one can take her place, but I will always have the wonderful memories of our adventures and great experiences we shared over the long years of our friendship. w

I first became acquainted with Mrs. Luger when I was in high school and working at the Prairie Village Safeway grocery store. I remember her fondly as a very nice and pretty lady who always had a smile on her face and a kind greeting. We would often visit when she was in the store and it was obvious that she was very proud of her sons. She was frequently on her way to or from a game of tennis! My deepest condolences to Brad and Brian.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sue and George Luger in 1999 from that point to present, it seemed like I became a family member. The numerous conversations and local trips with them both. Sue lived her full Potential and beyond and she had fun doing it. We’ve always clicked and had a lot in common! Though I’m very much saddened by her loss. I have a lifetime of memories and pictures of us together getting into good trouble. I love you Sue Sue you rest now my dear friend!
