Edward Glion Curtis III

Nov 13, 1940 - Mar 13, 2026

Edward Glion Curtis III, 85, died March 11 at St. Luke’s Hospice House of a pulmonary embolism.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 13, 1940, he joined his family in Haiti, where his mother and father – Mary Ellen and Edward Glion Curtis, Junior - lived with the United States Foreign Service community. To distinguish the two Glions, people called the baby “Petit Glion,” which started a lifelong family nickname, Tig. The family lived in Spain, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Panama, and Nicaragua by the time Glion moved to Washington DC to finish High School. There he sang with the Bethesda Chevy Chase Glee Club, a madrigal group with whom he became lifelong friends and pursued a love of music.

He graduated from Westminster College in 1964 where he completed ROTC training and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army SETAF in Verona Italy in 1966, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant. He earned a Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law in 1969 and began a 31-year career working for the Federal Government as a senior executive of both the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), retiring from the position of Assistant General Counsel for Regional Affairs for the FDIC in 2000.

From their home in Westwood Hills, KS Glion and Marilyn travelled extensively, including trips to China, Egypt, and Antarctica. He supported and enjoyed musical organizations including the Grasshoppers Opera group and Friends of Chamber Music, and engaged in weekly meet-ups with fellow polymaths known as “the coffee boys”.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marilyn Kohler Curtis, stepson Drew Woolery, daughter Laura A. Curtis, sisters Mary Kamman and Susi Chivvis, brother Frank B. Curtis, and five grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 16, 2026 in the Garden Room at St. Paul's Episcopal Chruch, 11 E. 40th St. Kansas City, Missouri. Reception to follow.

The truest of a true gentleman; brilliant legal mind; bon vivant. An honor to have known Glion, to have been in his presence, even to have received a work-related email from him. A certain quietude. Admirable rectitude. Glion, thank you for being you.
