Rolly Clayton Hayward, 93, of Olathe, KS passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, surrounded in love by his wife and family. Rolly was born in Kansas City, Kansas on April 26, 1933, to Joseph and Henrietta Hayward. He had four brothers, Carl, Selvin, Eugene and Leon Hayward.
Rolly graduated from Mound City High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps. Stationed in Hawaii, he achieved the rank of Sargent. After discharge he came home to Ocheltree, KS where he met his wife, Bonnie. Rolly always said that one look and he knew that the two of them would be together for always. Rolly and Bonnie were married on May 31, 1958, in Spring Hill, KS. They were married 68 years, so their love was indeed everlasting. While raising their five children, they lived in multiple locations.
Rolly worked as a service technician for Nike missile sites in Cheyenne, WY, helped install the vault doors of the Wolf Creek Power Plant in Kansas, worked for Mosler Safe Company in Houston, TX, and as a Regional Manager for Mosler Safe company in Denver, CO, overseeing the installation and service of vault doors, alarms and other security items. Planning for retirement, they returned to the Kansas City area and later purchased a small farm near Fontana, KS. Retiring at the age of 59, Rolly and Bonnie spent many happy years on the farm before finally relocating back to Olathe, KS.
Rolly enjoyed riding motorcycles, woodworking, building intricate wooden and plastic models, reading western novels, or just being outdoors doing things around the farm. He also liked going for long drives with his wife and stopping at their favorite restaurants where he was very popular with the staff. He truly loved his all of family and was always glad to see them stop by, even if just for a minute, greeting everyone with a smile and some words of wisdom. He also really loved his dog, Dusty Rose. He was one of a kind and we will truly miss him.
Rolly is preceded in death by his son, Donald Hayward, his parents Joseph and Henrietta Hayward, and three brothers, Carl, Selvin, and Eugene Hayward.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Bonnie Hayward; one brother Leon Hayward, daughters: Debra Moelter and her husband Alfred, Rebecca Pedigo and her husband Randall; sons: Carl Hayward and his wife Tammy Hambleton, Michael Hayward and his wife Mary. Rolly has seven grandchildren, Duane, Anthony, Nina, Amber, Benjamin, Christopher, and Carol. He has fifteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren as well as many extended family members and friends.
In accordance with Rolly’s wishes, a Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held at a later date.
