Shirley Ann Maxwell, age 83, passed away on July 9th, 2026, at home in Overland Park, KS. Shirley was born on March 30, 1943 in Independence, MO to Frank Youkovich and Mary Stecz. Shirley went to the University of Missouri to obtain her teaching degree. She met the love of her life at Georgetown Apartments, Charles Edgar Maxwell III. Edd and Shirley married on June 14, 1969. They had 5 children Stephen, Jennifer, John, Mary, and Catherine. Shirley was an avid Missouri Tigers fan but could be seen wearing KU Jayhawk gear cheering on the basketball and football teams. Shirley dedicated her life volunteering her time at all her children’s schools, boy scouts, girl scouts, IHN, Ad Altare Dei, CCD teacher, Pawnee Elementary, the Kansas City Women’s Symphony Alliance and countless other organizations. If one of her grandchildren had an event you could see her cheering them on from the sidelines. Shirley is survived by her husband Edd of 57 years, children, Jennifer Gibson, John Maxwell, Mary Patterson, and Catherine Burtchett and 10 grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Stephen and her granddaughter, Lyla Marie. A celebration of life will be held at Neighborhood Church of Overland Park on July 25th at 11:00 am. Shirley Ann touched the lives of many people and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, you perform an act of kindness in her name.
