Robert Leroy McCartney, lovingly known as Bob, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 1, 2026, at Garden Terrace of Overland Park, Kansas. He was 90 years old.
Bob was born on March 14, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Clyde and Lela McCartney. He served his country in the United States Air Force before building a successful career as an accountant. Throughout his life, Bob had an exceptional appreciation for numbers, a quality that served him well both professionally and personally.
Outside of his career, Bob was an avid golf and baseball enthusiast. He was known for his quick mind, independent spirit, and endearing non-conformist personality. Bob approached life on his own terms, and those who knew him appreciated his unique perspective, quiet wit, and authenticity.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann McCartney, who passed away in 1991; his parents, Clyde McCartney and Lela McCartney; and his sister, Donna McCartney.
He is survived by his son, Donald McCartney and his wife, Mindi; his stepsons, Timothy Caldwell and his wife, Tamara, and Anthony Caldwell and his wife, Rebecca; his sister, Jeanne (McCartney) Crawley Kunkle and her husband, Carl; his brother, Donald McCartney; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.
A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel located at Powell Gardens.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, in lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to the Kansas City Zoo using its website page for memorial gifts. His cremated remains will be scattered at later date(s) and locations according to his instructions.
Bob will be remembered for his love of family, his lifelong passion for golf and baseball, his fascination with numbers, and his unmistakable individuality. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
