William Michael (Mike) Rooney

Mike Rooney, 78, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, following a prolonged battle with Myasthenia Gravis.   His wife, Barb, and son, Austen, were by his side.

Mike was born in Kansas City, KS.  He had a 20-year career in the United States Air Force, and after retiring, began a second career in Operations Management.  He held management positions with DST Systems, Pitney Bowes, Cardinal Health and Lockheed Martin.  Mike retired in 2014, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf and traveling during his retirement years.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Craig and Shirley Rooney, brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Lois Rooney, and sister, Joanne Stout.  Mike is survived by his wife Barb, of their home in Overland Park, and his son Austen and wife Jessica Day in San Diego, CA.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews Chris Rooney (Lucia), Brian Rooney (Mary Ann), Sarah Rooney, Elizabeth Rooney (Mark Antrim), as well as many great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Community and Evergreen Hospice Care, Olathe, KS for their kindness, patience and compassionate care for Mike these last six months.  In addition, the family would like to thank all of the Healthcare providers at Advent Health.  They provided exceptional care, and we will be forever grateful.
