1944–2026
Joyce Eileen Chandley, born April 11, 1944, in Carrollton, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 82 years old.
Raised in Carrollton, MO until the age of 12 then moving with her family to Kansas City, Missouri, where she built a life rooted in service, dedication, and deep compassion. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1962, a milestone she carried with pride throughout her life, while attending Nursing School at Johnson County Community College.
Serving as a G.I. Nurse in the metro area, she became one of the founding staff members of GI Associates, where her skill and leadership also helped establish the region’s first dedicated GI Lab at Bethany Medical Center. Her work touched countless lives and set a standard of excellence that shaped the future of gastrointestinal care in the Kansas City area.
Joyce took pride and pleasure bringing her creative and sewing skills to local community theatre groups, working with her son Jayson and supporting the White Theatre on the campus of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Flash R. Homan and Leona (Doll) Homan; her brothers Reber Lee Homan and Robert Leonard Homan.
Joyce is survived by her children Darlene Nelson, Carolyn Junghans, and Jayson Chandley, along with six grandchildren and six great‑grandchildren, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the patients she cared for and her donations to the White Theatre.
Joyce will be remembered for her strength, her gentle humor, her unwavering devotion to her family, and her lifelong commitment to helping others. Her presence was a steady light, and her absence will be deeply felt.
