Craig Mize April 8, 1957 – October 4, 2026. Craig, 69, passed away at the KC Hospice House following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Craig was a cherished husband, son, brother, uncle and friend and will be deeply missed.
Craig was born in Kansas City to Gerald Mize and Margaret Brotemarkle Mize. He graduated from Ruskin High School and UMKC with a bachelor’s degree. Craig loved history, reading, music, comic books and sports. His favorites were KU Basketball and the KC Chiefs. Craig had a special love of animals, especially all dogs. Craig’s favorite place was Elite Comics. He had a comic book family of very special friends for over 20 years.
Craig is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debbie; mother Margaret Mize; sister Vicky Trumbly; brother-in-laws: Larry Evanoff (Debbie) and Gary Evanoff (Susan). Craig was proud uncle to: Kris Evanoff, Dusty Evanoff (Maria), Leslie Lawrence, Michelle Willoughby (Tyson), Spencer Trumbly (Rachel) and Krista Jenkins (Brian). He also leaves many great-nieces and great-nephews, adopted grandchild Christian, many cherished friends and his beloved Old English Sheepdog, Daisy.
A visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park KS on October 17. Visitation at 2 with Celebration of Life at 3. Casual dress strongly encouraged.
Special thanks to everyone at the KU Cancer Center in Lee’s Summit for their care and uplifting camaraderie through his illness as well as KC Hospice for the awesome job the team did to provide dignity and care the past weeks.
